It sounds simple. If you want to further develop your clairvoyance all you have to do is meditate in the dark with your eyes open.
By definition, clairvoyance is defined as the ability to see clearly. Based on our individual perceptions of reality, the word clairvoyance can take on many meanings.
- To see beyond our typical 5 senses
- Seeing auras, colors, and subtle energies surrounding living organisms
- 6th sense
- Third eye
- The ability to see remotely
- To receive visual images from a distance
- To gain information utilizing our extrasensory perception
Recently I was watching the Netflix movie, Superhuman: The Invisible Made Visible and there was a segment in the movie in which they were documenting children that were learning to read while wearing eye masks that blocked all-natural light. These kids were reading textbooks, sensing colors and images clairvoyantly with a high level of accuracy. I was in a state of awe. However, my first emotional response was envy. I said to myself, “I want to develop that skill.” In reality, I don’t need to learn how to read with a blindfold on, I just want to further develop my level of clairvoyance.
So, I paused the documentary and I immediately ordered my own Mindfold Mask from Amazon for less than $13USD. I received it two days later and I have been wearing it every day for at least 30 minutes during my meditation time. Initially, I was a bit unsettled meditating with my eyes open. For me personally, when I close my eyes during meditation it is easy for me to turn inward and slow down my mental chatter and focus on my physical sensations and subtle energies within and surrounding my body. Now with my eyes open, I found the mental “information” to be distracting. At first, I thought the chatter was nonsensical and irrelevant. But with time and repetition, I am beginning to realize that I am gaining insights and deepening the conceptualization of thoughts and situations.
Upon further investigation, I learned that Nikola Farmer from the UK is teaching kids to read, write, and play blindfolded with the Mindfold Mask. She claims that children between the ages of 5 and 12 are able to develop this ability because these kids don’t have a logical brain. The right side of their brain is overly active and the left side of their brains which governs their critical thinking and logic has not kicked in yet.
The 6th chakra is known as the “third eye” and is located in the forehead above the brow line. It is connected to the element light and its central focus is for clairvoyance and balancing the analytical and intuition. When it is developed it supports oneself in seeing the “truth” in situations. The associated endocrine gland is the pineal which is responsible for the production of melatonin and the regulation of the perception of light versus dark and is influential in our sleep patterns. Interestingly enough, the pineal gland is actually made up of rods and cones photoreceptor cells which are similar to the retinal cells found in our eyes. Because the pineal gland sits in the center of the brain midline between the two hemispheres in the area of the hypothalamus, it is also responsible for producing glial cells which are a particular brain cell. Perhaps these cells play a role in balancing the two sides of the brain thus allowing extrasensory information to be processed?
Curiosity led me to additional research. I stumbled upon this enlightening blog article, Darkness Retreat – Ancient Technology for Spiritual Alchemy by Doc Niro. I found this esoteric viewpoint fascinating. Here’s my favorite quote from the article.
“In the isolation from any external light, the third eye (pineal gland) overflows with certain neurotransmitters that awaken the higher brain, the ability to imprint the brain. The imagination begins to externalize, and even when you open your eyes you walk within your imagination. It projects outwards and becomes a vivid light experience.”
He goes on in his article about Darkness Techniques being used throughout time in various religious traditions for spiritual enlightenment. The deprivation of lights ultimately produces various neurotransmitters which alter the brain chemistry to elicit higher levels of consciousness.
Now, this is cool and worthy of a personal experiment! Unfortunately, at this time in my life, I can’t commit to 14 days of total light isolation but I can commit to continuing wearing the mask during my 30-minute daily practice and setting intentions to increase my clairvoyance and consciousness. Over time, I will continue to update you with my subtle but noticeable changes.
